Up Close And Personal With Lions Like Never Before [video, gallery, petition]

Lions are known for courage and strength but also their majestic beauty. Their presence demands respect which is why they have been given the nickname “King of the Jungle”. Lions are the only social member of the cat family and live in groups called prides. As humans, we have admired lions as a noble species for thousands of years.

Unfortunately, today they are facing extinction. Their numbers have dropped dramatically as they are mercilessly under attack by people. According to Dereck Joubert, “each year an average of about 500 lion trophies or skins enter the United States from trophy hunting in Africa.” He goes on to say, “With just 20,000 lions left, however, targeting one of the last 4,500 male lions on Earth with a high-powered rifle merely to serve the pleasure of ego, sport and power, seems inappropriate right now.”

There a number of reasons why the number of lions that exist are quickly being eliminated. Two key reasons being the booming human population and poachers.

Sign The Petition to Help Save African lions from extinction by listing them as an endangered species!

“Many people already think African lions are protected as an endangered species, but they aren’t listed under the Endangered Species Act. That means the US government doesn’t protect them, and it’s legal to import lion trophies and lion parts and to serve lion meat at restaurants here in the states.”
